Vaping Knowledge

3 common vaping myths

Vaping is the procedure of inhaling or consuming vapor from e-cigarettes or any other such devices. Vaping has always been a debated topic for years. Various laws put various restrictions on the selling of e-cigarettes like the United States of Federal Laws restricts the sale of e-cigarettes to people under the age of 21.

According to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), vaping is most popular among teens, and it is also the most popular tobacco form used among young people. Now let’s come to several myths associated with vaping. Some of the common myths associated with vaping include the threat of cancer, encouraging tobacco use, containing anti-freezing elements, risk of exposure to formaldehyde, addiction, yellow teeth, etc.

But here we are focusing on three of the worst myths linked with vaping.

3 Common Vaping Myths Busted:

1. Vaping is Less Harmful Than Smoking

As per a common myth, people believe that vaping is less harmful than smoking, and thus you can replace smoking with vaping. However, this is not true. The fundamental difference between e-cigarettes and traditional cigarettes is that a regular cigarette contains tobacco that serves cancer. Whereas an E-cigarette works by actually heating the nicotine, which is extracted from tobacco as well as other chemicals to create an aerosol which you can inhale, a normal cigarette consists of 7000 highly toxic chemicals.

However, there has been a major increase in lung disorders and injuries associated with vaping.  In fact, as per a study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on January 21, 2020, there have been 60 confirmed deaths related to vaping.

As per a study conducted by Herrington JS, Myers C. on electronic cigarette solutions and resultant aerosol profiles, it was mentioned that these cigarettes consist of many chemicals that are directly associated with cancer. Some of the chemicals present in the e-cigarettes are nicotine, Carcinogens, Diacetyl, Diethylene glycol, and Propylene glycol. But it should also be noted that e-cigarettes contain very few of these components. If someone claims that vaping is more dangerous to health than traditional cigarettes, then they should know that whatever studies were conducted till now is not very reliable. These studies were very short-term, or the participants were not under unique observation. It was also found that studies were also based on self-reported use of e-cigarettes.

Public health England also stated that vaping is 95% safer than smoking. A study in 2015 showed that vaping helped 49 people per day in quitting smoking. Cancer Research UK has talked in the past about the use of vaping to quit smoking.

2. Vaping liquid contains just Water:

It is a common myth that vaping is all about vapors, which is just a myth. As per Dr. Leone, MD, MS, physician, and Director of Comprehensive Smoking Treatment Programs at Penn Medicine, he says that this is not correct, and vaping contains aerosol. Though the word ‘aerosol’ has many negative connotations attached to it, the advertisements related to vaping says that it is water vapors that you are inhaling. As per Doctor Leone, what we see is actually a chemical named Propylene Glycol, instead of water vapor. Absolute beginners can click here and find the best vaping e-liquid at affordable prices.

3. Vaping causes Watering of lungs:

A study in mice (2019) concluded that vaping could increase the risk of heart disease. Is this statement trustworthy?

Riccardo who has earned accolades in the field of respiratory medicine, clinical immunology, as well as tobacco addiction, Chief Scientific Advisor for Lega Italian AntiFumo (LIAF), the Italian Anti-Smoking League, and being one of the world’s renowned experts on e-cigarettes has stated that is actually a myth. He further added that one could get more water vapor from the home nebulizer, which is designed to develop COPD as compared to electronic cigarettes. They conducted a test on vaper (e-cigarettes vapor) and found vaping procedures never triggered respiratory symptoms.

Moreover, people who shifted from traditional smoking to vaping showed an impressive improvement in respiratory outcomes. It was seen that PG (Propylene Glycol) in the aerosol forms an effective antibacterial and antiviral agent that prevents infections of the respiratory tract because it does not create an ideal condition for germs to get multiplied and spread. Researchers concluded that vaping is safe and practical and helps in the prevention of COPD exacerbation.

Final Words

As far as the word of the mouth goes, vaping is less harmful than smoking. Many reports have stated that vaping contains very less nicotine, has no noxious odors, has lesser harmful outputs,  and is safer than smoking. Moreover, they are easy on the pocket!.

Tobacco giants fund false advertising & claims to save their business and to grow their industries as much as they can by cutting the vaping market from their path. In the end, they somehow manage to supply fake claims like vaping may lead to the undeveloped brain in children, memory loss, poor concentration, distractions, mood swings, and increasing the risk of addiction in adults.
