4 reasons why your vape tastes bad

The biggest reason why people switch to vaping is because it’s less harmful than smoking. The biggest reason why people stick with vaping, though, is because vaping tastes infinitely better.

Would you rather taste an ashtray or an ice cream cone while you’re getting your nicotine? There really is no contest.

If you found yourself shaking your head while reading that first paragraph, you might be one of the few people for whom vaping hasn’t been an instant pleasure. Have you tried an e-cigarette and found yourself unimpressed by the flavour?

Maybe you…

  • Experienced a burning sensation in your throat
  • Felt a scratchy irritation in your throat or lungs when inhaling
  • Had difficulty tasting anything at all

If something isn’t right about your choice of vaping equipment or e-liquid, your vape won’t taste good. Experienced vapers know how to troubleshoot that problem, but if you have the misfortune of having a bad experience when you try vaping for the first time, you might think that your experience is representative of what vaping is like and that vaping just isn’t for you.

Did you have a bad experience when trying an e-cigarette for the first time? Vaping isn’t supposed to be that way – it’s supposed to taste great! This article will describe the four reasons why your vape doesn’t taste good and explain how to fix the problem.

You’re Using the Wrong E-Liquid Flavour

When you tried vaping, did you choose a tobacco flavour for your first e-liquid? One of the first things any new vaper needs to know is that, in most cases, tobacco is actually the last flavour you should choose. That’s because, while e-liquid can taste like almost anything, the one flavour that e-liquid does a poor job of recreating is the flavour of tobacco.

E-liquid, after all, doesn’t contain tobacco and doesn’t burn. The vape juice makers of the world use some creative methods to create flavours resembling tobacco out of various food flavourings, but no amount of creativity will turn food flavourings into cigarette smoke.

Since e-liquid makers use food flavourings to create their products, you’ll have a much better experience if you choose a vape juice based on the flavour of a candy, beverage or snack. The next time you buy vape juice from V2 Cigs UK, expand your horizons and try some new flavours.

Your Device’s Wattage Is Set Too High

Do you have a vaping device with adjustable wattage settings? Variable wattage makes it possible to tailor the volume and warmth of the vapour to your specifications. At the same time, though, your vaping device can’t tell you if you’ve set the wattage too high. Do you experience a burned flavour – possibly coupled with throat irritation – when you vape? Your wattage setting is probably too high.

Your vaping device has a heating coil with a wick wrapped around it. When you vape, the heating coil vaporizes the e-liquid in the wick – but if the coil is operating at too high a power level, it’ll vaporize the e-liquid more quickly than the wick can replenish itself with e-liquid from the tank or pod. In that case, the coil will overheat, and the wick may burn.

Are you still experiencing a burned flavour even after lowering your device’s wattage? It’s likely that you’ve burned the wick in your tank or pod. Once cotton is burned, it’s burned forever – and even a small burned spot can make your vape taste terrible. If you’re using a tank, try replacing the atomizer coil. If you’re using a pod system, replace the pod.

Your Nicotine Strength Is Too High

Do you feel a scratchy, irritated sensation in your throat or lungs when vaping? Even after you’ve been vaping for a while, do you still feel like you’re going to cough each time you inhale the vapour? There’s a good chance that the nicotine strength you’re using is too high.

If you go to a vape shop and tell the people there that you’re a smoker, they’ll probably direct you to the highest-nicotine e-liquid that they carry. To a certain extent, that makes sense because you might find vaping unsatisfying if your vape doesn’t deliver nicotine as efficiently as a cigarette. Some people, however, find higher nicotine strengths irritating and are better off using lower-nicotine e-liquids instead.

Is your vaping device a large vape pen or box mod? Does it have a large glass tank with a wide mouthpiece? If that’s the case, it’s even more likely that your nicotine strength is too high because you have a device that produces very large vapour clouds and is intended for direct-to-lung inhaling. With high-output vaping devices, people typically use e-liquids with nicotine strengths as low at 3 mg/ml.

Your Vaping Device Isn’t Powerful Enough

Using a high-output vaping device is the wrong decision for some beginning vapers. If you’ve chosen a small vaping device as your first e-cigarette and are unhappy with the flavour, though, a more powerful device might be exactly what you need.

When you shop for a vaping device designed to appeal to beginning vapers, you’re likely to see mostly small pod vaping systems and cigarette-shaped devices called “cigalikes.” Those types of vaping devices are designed to be portable, discreet and easy to use. They’re also designed to work well with high-nicotine e-liquids, thus allowing those small devices to be as satisfying as tobacco cigarettes.

Small vaping devices have a shortcoming, though, in that they generate small vapour clouds. A device that produces small clouds doesn’t use much e-liquid, and if you’re not using much e-liquid, you’re not getting a great deal of flavour.

If flavour is more important to you than the strong “throat hit” that you get when you use a high-nicotine e-liquid, then you’ll probably be happier with a higher-output vaping device and a lower-nicotine e-liquid. Look for a vape pen or mod that includes a refillable glass tank, and buy an e-liquid with a nicotine strength of 3 mg/ml. Increase your nicotine strength to 6 mg/ml only if you’re sure that you’re not getting enough nicotine.
